Creating or Updating the Virtual File System

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Virtual File System (VFS) is a collection of audited, key-sequenced Enscribe files in which SOAP/AM stores all of its operational data. The VFS must be located on a TMF-audited volume.

The VFS is created and updated using the VFSMGR utility. You must perform this operation when you perform a new installation or update an existing installation. The syntax of the command is:

RUN VFSMGR -SETUP <vfs-subvolume> [ <vfs-image-file> ]

where vfs-subvolume is the location ($volume.subvolume) in which to create the VFS

vfs-image-file is the location ($volume.subvolume.file) of a VFSIMAGE to be used to update the VFS.

The VFSMGR utility automatically detects whether this is a new installation or an upgrade and operates appropriately.

1. If this is a new installation, run the VFSMGR utility specifying the desired location of the VFS.

Before proceeding you must backup your existing VFS. Refer to the section Copying or Moving the Virtual File System for advice on how to backup the VFS.

Note: If you are using SOAP/AM Server version 2.0 SP2 or earlier, the license key is stored in the Virtual File System. During the upgrade process to version 2.0 SP3 or greater, if there is no license file available on the system the VFSMGR program extracts the license key from the VFS and writes it to the file LICENSE in the VFS subvol.
